The Vermont Historical Society annually presents a program commemorating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year's talk by Robert Forrant, Distinguished History Professor at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell will focus on issues related to immigration, worker's rights, and industrialization as seen in the 1912 "Bread & Roses" strike in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Co-sponsored by the Vermont Humanities Council. The History Center will also be open from 12:00-4:00pm that day to view exhibits, including the newly opened "The Art of Granite" exhibit, co-curated by the Vermont Granite Museum. In celebration of the start of Vermont Reads 2018 and the book’s connection to the history of Barre, the Vermont Humanities Council will be on hand to distribute free copies of "Bread and Roses, Too" to the first 50 visitors to the “Art of Granite”
