NB: for last-minute tickets please call 203-444-2884. Twilight is the time of day between daylight and darkness, when the sun sets. It is a magical time to be on the water. Explore the region's lighthouses -- as the sun sets -- with the one who knows them best. There is every variety of lighthouses within easy reach of New London harbor. New London Maritime Society owns three of them, and each summer provides a variety of lighthouse boat tours from June through October. Take a memorable one-hour ride to view the three picturesque lighthouses of New London Harbor: New London Harbor 'Pequot' Light a classic octagon, the oldest and tallest lighthouse on Long Island Sound; 1909 brick New London Ledge Light reputed home to Erie the ghost; and Avery Point Light built in 1943, the newest lighthouse in Connecticut. The boat takes six passengers, only. Trips coincide with the three dates of the full moon. Best of all, all monies raised by NLMS go towards restoration of our local lighthouses. Tours commence Wednesday, June 7 and run through October! Remember: Reservations, 24 hours in advance, are necessary for all of our tours, as we need to notify our captains. (If you want to take a chance with a day-of tour, please call 860-447-8700.) ~ departure information Sunset lighthouse tours depart from the floating dock adjacent to City Pier behind the New London Train Station, at the foot of State Street, New London, Connecticut. Tours last approximately 60 minutes. Reservations are strongly recommended. Wear deck shoes or sneakers. Call 860-447-8700 for more information. ~ tour prices $40 adults, $35 NLMS members & seniors, $30 children 6 to 12. Ticket includes free admission to the Custom House Maritime Museum ($7 value) and a 10% discount in the Museum Shop. Tickets are non-refundable unless there is a weather cancellation. All tours are weather dependent. Please check your email inbox prior to departing for the dock. We will notify you by email if the tour is canceled. Food and drink, with the exception of water, is NOT permitted on the boat. For safety reasons, NO alcoholic beverages are permitted. NLMS also offers F90-minute 'Find your Lighthouse' tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:30 AM aboard the 20-passenger 'Popeye'.
