About the event: Santa Cruz County Bank Arts Collaborative invites you to join us for an art reception celebrating Native Son by Ed Penniman! Meet the artist, mingle with fellow community members, enjoy local wines, and snack on small bites. Artwork on display is for sale and all proceeds from art sales go directly to the artist. About the artist: Born in the artistic community of Santa Cruz & mentored by his grandmother, Lenora N. Penniman, who was one of the "Santa Cruz Three" famed women landscape painters of the 1920-40s, Penniman is a graduate of Chouinard Art School in Los Angeles. His familiarity with the coastal landscape of Santa Cruz inspired his first oil painting at the age of twelve. Familiarity alone can’t account for the dreamlike vibrancy & spirituality that radiates from his landscapes. They are, in many important respects, inner vignettes that transmit the deep appreciation for life of a man who has been to the brink of death & made a comeback. Penniman is an artist living out his second life: a life infused with humility, awe & gratitude. The exhibition is curated by Mary Anne Carson, Director of the Santa Cruz County Bank Arts Collaborative, and Janet Silverglate and will be on display through November 2, 2018.
