When individuals with High Functioning Asperger’s Syndrome have the proper supports in place they can live meaningful lives. They have much to contribute to society, when able to do so, from a place of strength. They are ‘out of the box’ thinkers and can be very innovative, providing creative, detailed descriptions to solve problems - within their area of interest. However, Asperger’s Syndrome can also have a serious downside when those supports, accommodations and understandings are not in place. In Anson's case, the many challenges he faced with regard to being appropriately acknowledged for his expertise and valuable contributions have resulted in five Human Rights Tribunal complaints against Canadian sport organizations and government agencies. These groups have attempted to silence him because they didn’t like aspects of his behaviour - Asperger’s Meltdowns - that were actually a direct consequence of their attitude and behaviour towards him. This situation would lead to him being diagnosed at age 38 as having this mental health syndrome, for which there is no cure. Join Jason Anson as he shares his personal story of Asperger’s and the strengths and weaknesses associated with it, of how he bumped in the dark throughout the first part of his life but now has a blueprint to be successful moving forward.
