Winner of the 2010 Obie Award for Best New American Play, Circle Mirror Transformation traces the journey of five New Englanders as they make their way through a six-week-long adult acting class in a small Vermont town. Couched in the language of harmless theatre games, hearts are quietly torn apart, and tiny wars of epic proportions are waged and won. The audience is invited to observe a beautifully crafted microcosm where, with hilarious detail and clarity, the antic sadness of a motley quintet is revealed.
The New York Times calls Circle Mirror Transformation “... the kind of unheralded gem that sends people into the streets babbling and bright-eyed with the desire to spread the word.” Variety says the play is “orchestrated with a subtlety and unfailing naturalness…” and the Village Voice notes that Circle Mirror Transformation “Reverberates with seduction and sorrow.”
