Honcho was formed in 1998. They contained of the bands two founders, Steinar Knapstad on bass and Mathias Ingvarsson on guitar. They were joined by Trond Skog on vocals, Håkon Eng on guitar and Kenneth Andersen on drums. After an intensive period of songwriting and long hours in the rehearsal premises, Honchos first EP “Evil women” was released in 1999. The EP was well received both home and abroad and the liking of the band reached new heights when they toured Scandinavia and gave the audiences a real lesson in concertintensity. Honcho has a word of always giving 100% and reviews of the band often compare them to great metal bands like Monster Magnet, Kyuss, Black Sabbath and Clutch, as well as norwegian bands like El Caco and We. I’ts all about blues, psychedelic rock, groovy metal and classic heavy Rock. The years after releasing ”Corporate rock” contained of touring Europe, and also releasing the followup album ”Burning in water, drowning in fire” along with the live dvd ”Live in Paris” Honcho has never received the publicity they deserve in Norway, much of this coming from the bands long connection with a French, and not a Norwegian recordlabel. Today the band appear more like a neoclassic rock band, but still with their feet well planted in the footsteps of Tony Iommi, Jimmy Page and Alvin Lee. The range of the songs include the Ten Years After inspired “Visine” to the epic doomballade “Earth” which could have been written in some of Tony Iommi’s most spaced out moments. Now, ten years after it all begun, Honcho is about to release a new album with a new guitarist. The album is called ”Battle of Wits” and is recorded and produced by the wellknown Don Dons from We. With this album, the band has finally taken the matter into their own hands and the budget made it possible to use time on finesses in the studio. The band has used more than ten years to adjust to this unique sound and with Don Dons’ help Honcho is now dangerously close to their vision of becoming one of Norways best rock bands.
