The Maine native received his first Fender Stratocaster at age 13 and perfected his blend of effects pedals and guitar melodies by the time he finished high school. He was discovered at a concert for Ziggy Marley for which Day served as the opening act. Day self-produced and independently released his debut album Australia in 2000 and was subsequently asked to record a cover of The Beatles' "Help" for the Sean Penn film I Am Sam. The buzz from his debut and from the film secured Day a major label deal with Epic Records who sent Day packing to London where he produced his sophomore set. Day sat down in the studio with Martin "Youth" Glover, who produced the Verve's Urban Hymns album, to craft pop-rock perfection. The disc, Stop All the World Now, was released in 2003 and after a slow up-hill climb, the album became a success off the heels of "She Says" and "Collide". The latter was featured on episodes of Scrubs, One Tree Hill, and Grey's Anatomy and eventually sold 1.5 million digital downloads. The album was certified Gold and Howie Day tour dates were scheduled to capitalize on the album's success. The concert tour kept Day on the road for the better part of five years. After taking some time off, Howie Day returned to the studio in 2008 and released his third album Sound the Alarm in 2009. The album featured the production of Martin Terefe and Mike Flynn to combined the styles of indie-rock darling Aimee Mann and power-pop band The Fray. The album featured the hit single "Be There" and Howie Day embarked on another national tour to promote the album. While the album was not as successful as its predecessor, Day was not deterred and has returned to the studio to record the follow-up which is expected out this 2011. Howie Day's extensive concert schedule has created a nation-wide fan-base. His songs, including "Collide", captivated the hearts of romance seekers everywhere and made him a mainstay on Adult Contemporary stations. While he is working on his as-yet-untitled fourth album, the singer has managed to schedule some performances this 2011.
