Kate Nash has come to be the hottest female indie popper to come out of England in quite a few years. The artist's unique sound — characterized by light percussions and ethereal guitar effects — is best described as the ideal blending of upbeat pop and melodic indie sounds. Nash is one of just a few popular British acts that lets her charming Cockney accent shine through, both on records and tour dates. With two hugely popular records out, the world now knows of Kate Nash, and will know her all the more intimately when her new album drops within a year's time. While she's recording, Nash has no planned concert dates in 2011 yet, but fans can expect momentous tour dates once the album is completed. Kate Nash was born in Dublin, Ireland, on July 6, 1987. Before playing tour dates, she studied theater at the BRIT School (which boasts alumni like Amy Winehouse and Adele) and had plans to attend the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School before being denied. Shortly after, Kate Nash broke her foot and began writing songs to pass the time, eventually performing regularly at a local bar after recovery. Several successful shows persuaded the artist to post some of her songs on MySpace; the songs garnered attention from a number of listeners, including Lilly Allen. Her first recording was a 2007 single containing the tracks "Caroline's a Victim" and "Birds", for which only 1,000 vinyl copies were ordered. The order quickly sold out and another thousand were commissioned before selling out yet again. The success of the single attracted the attention of Fiction Records, which produced her second single, "Foundations". The song made it to #2 on the UK Singles Chart and was followed up by Nash's tour dates at various European music festivals. The artists sudden success rushed the release of her debut album, Made of Bricks, in 2007. While the album was received with mixed reviews, fans gobbled it up and the record shot to the top of UK album charts and sold nearly 60,000 copies in its first week. The album was characterized by an almost electronic indie sound with ambient effects and a very light feel to it. Kate Nash stepped up her game even further on her 2010 album, My Best Friend is You. The album's lead single, "Do-Wah-Doo" says it all, as Nash employs a sound that has been compared to that of female Motown acts like The Supremes. The album takes on a much more diverse sound that was excellently received by critics and fans alike; so much so, that Kate Nash is headlining tour dates in the US and the UK. Kate Nash has no plans for concert dates in 2011 until the completion of her two-disc album, that is rumored to feature an exciting alter-ego. Without tour dates to hold fans over, they'll just have to wait until a single is released, hopefully in a few months.
