KT Tunstall has brought back a female edginess to the rock/folk format not seen since Alanis Morisette and "You Oughta Know". Three critically acclaimed albums, raspy vocals and clever lyrics have made KT Tunstall the belle of the folk-rock ball. KT Tunstall tour dates are currently scheduled internationally in support of her third studio album Tiger Suit. The Edinburgh, Scotland native was adopted by a Scottish physics professor and his teacher wife who reared her in an intellectual, albeit musically absent, household in her native Scotland. Due to her father's job, KT was afforded the ability to live in several university towns including UCLA during her childhood. She attended the prestigious Kent School in Connecticut where she performed locally and even spent time on a commune in Vermont. Her eclectic background prepared her for her life as an indie musician when she returned to the UK. After hearing about KT through scouts, UK based label Relentless Records offered the young singer a recording contract. She turned it down in favor of an American contract, however, the deal fell through and she found herself back with Relentless Records. Relentless Records took their time cultivating what they felt would be their breakout star. She released her debut album Eye to the Telescope in 2004 and it became a hit, despite its slow burning commercial rise. The lead-off single "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" became highly successful on British radio airplay. The song took off in the US after Katherine McPhee performed it on American Idol in 2006, thus catapulting the song to the top of the charts in the US. The single reached #1 on the US Adult Contemporary survey and remains Tunstall's biggest US hit to-date. The album was certified platinum in the US and Tunstall was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2007 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Tunstall followed up with an acoustic album, KT Tunstall's Acoustic Extravaganza in 2006 which featured material from her debut. She released her sophomore album Drastic Fantastic in 2007 to critical acclaim. The album debuted in the top ten in several countries including the US and UK and featured the single "Hold On". KT Tunstall's concert schedule included performances at all the major US talk shows including Ellen and Jay Leno. Additional KT Tunstall tour dates were booked at the Hogmanay Edinburgh Concert in 2007 and the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in 2007. Tunstall released her latest album Tiger Suit in 2010.
