Throughout history, the Midlands has played an important part in shaping the history of rock, folk and popular music. It is no surprise then, when we learn that Scott Matthews was born and bred in Wolverhampton. Its also a lesser known fact, that he attended the same senior school as Beverley Knight ! Upon aquiring his first guitar at the tender age of seven, he emersed himself in the music of such iconic figures, who have forever withstood the test of time; The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, Marc Bolan and.. Joe Satriani !! Scotts colourful musical past, steered him through experimentations with funk, indie rock and soul, before he finally decided to embark on a solo career, and it was his past musical experiences that laid the foundations for his own unique fusion of folk/rock blues to materialize. After signing a recording contract with independent label San Remo in 2004, Scott set about recording his debut album Passing Stranger. With session musicians, such as the world renowned Sukvinder Singh Namdhari, who has played alongside Ry Cooder and Ravi Shankar, the album would become a melting pot of musical genres, making it the most unique and original album to be produced by a solo artist in years. All that was left to do, was find someone capable of mastering such an accomplished album. Scott decided to employ the skills of Ray Staff, the man responsible for such classic albums as, Zeppelins Physical Graffiti and Bowies Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust. The circle was complete. All that remains to say, is that with the albums release upon us, you will be able to hear for youself why Scott Matthews will be the most faithful friend amongst your record collection, until then..
