The Cranberries exploded onto the alt-rock scene during the '90s to become Ireland's best export since U2. The Cranberries have their roots in Limerick, Ireland and were founded by brothers Noel and Mike Hogan with Fergal Lawler on drums and singer Dolores O'Riordan. They self-recorded their demo and shopped it around to all major labels; a bidding war ensued and the band eventually signed to Island Records. They released their debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing it, So Why Cant' We?, in 1993. The album was initially tepidly received until MTV discovered them and put their videos into heavy rotation. The Cranberries toured the UK with alt-rockers Suede and re-released their signature single "Linger". The single remains their only top ten charting track in the US and helped to push sales of their debut album to #1 and multi-Platinum status on the UK charts. The Cranberries released their sophomore set, No Need to Argue, in 1995 and scheduled international tour dates. The album featured the politically charged single "Zombie", and was certified seven times Platinum in the US to become their best selling album to date. The Cranberries closed out the '90s with the albums To the Faithful Departed and Bury the Hatchet and embarked on an extensive concert schedule.
