To call tUnE-yArDs experimental would be an understatement, and to call it an experience still wouldn't do the artist's music justice. Through two albums, and especially on tour dates, tUnE-yArDs is helping audiences reconsider the definition of what music actually is. With dominating percussion, conflicting ambient sounds, and often unpredictable vocals, tUnE-yArDs has created a unique sound that is unlike anything heard in mainstream music. With only two albums out, fans have noticed a considerable stylistic evolution on her most recent album, w h o k i l l and are excited to see how this style will play out on tUnE-yArDs' also wholly unique tour dates in 2011. A woman named Merrill Garbus, who previously played in the band Sister Suvi, is the brainchild of tUnE-yArDs. A skilled musician, Garbus began experimenting with more of a digital style and recorded music for her debut album on a voice recorder. She then mixed those sounds on her computer, creating the frenzied music that appeared on BiRd-BrAiNs in 2009. Critics couldn't help but take notice, and the album inspired both great reviews and tour dates. The concert performances featured Garbus creating spontaneous drum beats, then singing and playing the ukulele over the loop. Finding it hard to incorporate bass live, she brought in Nate Brenner, who also contributed heavily to tUnE-yArDs' most recent album, w h o k i l l. The album has received overwhelming acclaim and has prompted international tour dates in 2011. After performing at Outside Lands and Pukelpop in August, tUnE-yArDs will head to the UK and Western Europe on September 2. On September 19, she will begin a tour of the US that will last until late November. Don't miss this opportunity to catch a one-of-a-kind performance and buy your tickets on Eventful today!
