Though there are plenty of people out there that haven't heard of the band Ween, they have been in the background of dozens of television shows and movies for over twenty years. Ween's experimental, satirical style has led to numerous underground albums and tour dates that have gained the band a loyal cult following all over the world. While Ween hasn't released an album in four years, the group is currently in the studio working on their 12th album as well as appearing on a number of tour dates in 2011. Ween began in 1984 as a musical duo featuring high school friends Aaron Freeman (Gene Ween) and Mickey Melchiondo (Dean Ween). Ween independently released five albums early on that sounded more like drug-fueled jam sessions than albums, as well as played local tour dates around New Hope, PA. The duo gained major exposure after songs from their 1992 album, Pure Guava, began appearing on MTV. After adding to their line-up, Ween released the fan-favorite The Mollusk in 1997 and, with humorous nautical references and British style, seems like a modern H.M.S. Pinafore. Ween's 2000, pop-influenced album, White Pepper, also struck a chord with fans and even appealed to mainstream pop fans. 2003's Quebec also became a hit with fans, and 2007's La Cucaracha marked a return of critical interest in the veteran rockers. As fans patiently await Ween's next album, they can find them on a number of tour dates in 2011. Some shows will feature the whole band, while some will feature just Gene Ween, while still others will feature a combination of band members.
