The 9:30 Club Washington opened in 1980, the venue getting its name from its then-current address - 930 F Street, NW, Washington, D.C. During these early days, the 9:30 Club Washington provided a platform for rock and alternative bands primarily, showcasing the likes of The Police, The Ramones, Mod Fun and The Bangles.
In order to accommodate the increasingly impressive musical lineup as well as the growing number of fans demanding tickets, the 9:30 Club Washington was forced to close and relocate, reopening in a bigger space in 1996. In the years following, the 9:30 Club schedule saw some of the music industry's biggest hitters take to the venue's stage. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, O.A.R, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Bob Dylan are just a few of those major acts featured on the 9:30 Club schedule post-1996.

the good sound system isnt enough to make me want to stand amid throngs of people to see live music. too bad its not more like world cafe in philly--i have actually driven up there to see the same artists that appear at the 930 club--specially the indie artists. its great to actually sit and eat and drink in the balcony area while those who want to stand on the main/stage floor can do so. and the tickets are so reasonable up there at WC that its worth the drive... 2008-09-03 18:30:36

This is MY favorite place in DC. The sound system is probably the best in the city and it is true for any type of music. A must go type of place. 2008-07-13 18:57:21
