While the Boulder Theater has a rich history entertaining the people of Boulder, its current popularity is due to its schedule full of hit musicians and comedians. Located downtown near the Pearl Street Mall, the historic theater always schedules cutting edge entertainment each week, whether it be a hot mainstream band, one of the top comedians in the country, or an up-and-coming local band.
Built in 1906 as the Curran Opera House, the theater has adapted to the times throughout its history, featuring some of the first films and converting into a concert hall in the early 80s. It became the versatile space it is today in 1988, and now features every big name act coming through the area. The Boulder Theater also schedules other unique events, such as screenings for The Shoot out 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival Boulder, which attracts many amateur filmmakers. Every Sunday, the theater hosts the nationally syndicated, environmentally themed radio program, eTown, which features live performances by environmentally conscious musicians like Willie Nelson, Randy Newman, and many more.
Certainly the Boulder Theater is the hotspot for music and entertainment in and around Boulder. For a full list of events coming to the historic Boulder Theater, check the schedule above or just stop on by.
