The Hammerstein Ballroom NYC is located within the famous Manhattan Center Studios - a space it shares with another famous event venue, The Grand.
The history of the Manhattan Center Studios and the Hammerstein Ballroom NYC started in 1906 when it was constructed by Oscar Hammerstein. It was originally called the Manhattan Opera House. After a few changes in ownership, the Grand Ballroom was added to the roof of the existing opera house. Today, the original part of the theatre is called the Hammerstein Ballroom. The Hammerstein Ballroom NYC is particularly unique because it is a two-tiered venue with an adjustable capacity that is dependent on the configuration of the production. The Hammerstein Ballroom NYC is additionally known for its elegance and impeccable acoustic design.
Due to the on-premise television & recording studios, post-production suites and optional production services, the popularity of the Hammerstein Ballroom NYC with the creme de la creme of the arts world, should come as no surprise.
In addition to Grammy Award-winning recordings and Oscar-winning orchestral sets, the Hammerstein Ballroom schedule also includes industry events such as fashion shows, product launches and award shows to name but a few.

I love this venue. It used to be an opera house so most of the glamour is still there (check out the ceiling) along with balcony seats (I prefer the floor) and the rest rooms are loungelike, large and well stocked. Another plus is the two bars on the main floor. As for accoustics, well, if you like a heavier type of music it's great.
This venue is also very convenient if you are taking the the train. Penn Station is around the corner which is great for a quick departure.
I really have to say that The Hammerstein Ballroom is a great place to see a concert. If you don't mind standing for a few hours get the general admission ticket so you can walk around freely and get close to the stage. If you need to sit then go for the balcony tickets. Either way I think you will enjoy the experience. 2008-11-30 21:36:11
