The history of the museum dates back to financier, Andrew Mellon, who donated his prestigious and variegated collection of priceless art to a trust which would eventually become the National gallery of Art. The museum finished construction in 1941 and at the time was the world's largest marble construction. The facilities were expanded in the '70s and the East Building was designed by famed architect I.M. Pei. The artwork is as precious as the buildings that house them. The collection features artwork by Rembrandt, Goya, Titian, and Raphael just to name a few.
The National Galley of Art is one the United States's premier institutions for culture and art. It is currently ranked the 2nd most visited museum in the US and 6th most visited in the whole world.
