Completed in the summer of 1993, UB Stadium is the home of the football team, UB's track and field teams and the women's soccer team. The official ground-breaking of UB Stadium was held on September 17, 1991, and the $23 million complex was financed by the New York State Dormitory Authority. The stadium was the site of track and field competition and closing ceremonies for the 1993 World University Games, an event which attracted more than 5,000 athletes from over 130 countries. The facility was also the site of the 1998 men's and women's NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the first Division I championship ever contested in Western New York. A new generation of artificial surface - Sportexe Momentum - was installed in the stadium in the summer of 2005. An eight-lane, 400-meter track circles the stadium's infield, with 186-foot, free-standing light towers providing lighting for nighttime events. The stadium also houses administrative offices and meeting rooms, state-of-the-art training facilities, physical conditioning equipment, two large locker rooms capable of housing 800 athletes, 12 luxury suites and a 45-seat press box. There have been constant efforts made to improve the day-to-day experience for the student athletes. On June 10, 2011, the Brinkworth/McNally Football Alumni Team Meeting Room, a tiered meeting room equipped with theatre-style seating and state-of-the-art video equipment. Leadership gifts were made by former football players Kevin Brinkworth and Jim McNally. Other upgrades to the complex include the Ronald M. LaRocque Players Lounge which is located inside the football locker room and includes leather couches, flat screen televisions and gaming systems. In October of 2012, thanks to a generous gift from Ronald Balter, the equipment room at University at Buffalo's UB Stadium had a significant upgrade, being reconfigured with a modular organizing system facilitating a more efficient operation. In addition, office space was built for equipment room personnel. The equipment room services the UB football, baseball, track and field and cross country teams. The capacity of UB Stadium is 29,013.
